![]() Baten Kaitos does have one major hurdle for those who are interested in checking it out - availability. In Midnight Suns, cards will be used to interact with enemies and the environment. In Baten Kaitos, cards contained the essence of items used in the game, from gear and spells to Pac-Man. Abilities in both games are tied to a deck of cards. No one will confuse Midnight Suns with Baten Kaitos aesthetically, but it does share striking similarities with it mechanically. While Firaxis is mining a darker, less mainstream version of the Marvel Universe for Midnight Suns, it still isn't on the level of Baten Kaitos' world of flying islands and candy prisons. The weirdest RPG series on the GameCube, the Baten Kaitos games fantastical setting doesn't have much in common with Midnight Suns. The Hunter can similarly build up relationships with their teammates in the Midnight Suns' base, The Abbey. While developers have already shot down the idea of Midnight Suns featuring romance options akin to Fire Emblem's, you will be able to become "very close friends" with your team. Byleth occupies a similar role to Rising Suns' Hunter. Byleth can also interact with their students during the downtime between missions, building up relationships with dialogue and actions. ![]() After choosing a house, Byleth teaches their student and leads them in battle. In Three Houses, players take on the role of Byleth, a mercenary-turned-professor at the Garreg Mach Monastery's Officer's Academy. It's a similar niche to the one Midnight Suns is looking to occupy. Three Houses combines tactical battles with world-building social elements found in JRPGs like the Persona series. While the XCOM games are multiplatform releases, the game that best gives players a feel for Midnight Suns' combination of tactics and companionship is a Nintendo Switch exclusive.
